Typical Day
7:30-9:00 Breakfast
9:00-10:00 Variable Academic Time
10:00-11:00 Creative Group Time
11:00-12:00 Variable Academic Time
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:30 Creative Group Time
2:30-4:00 Low Impact Athletics
4:00-5:30 Group Time with TAs
5:30-7:00 Dinner
7:00-8:00 Flexible Programming
8:00-10:00 Entertainment Activities

Creative Group Time:
This is time when each group, the TA and the teacher get together to work on their world. It is important that each group have their own “space” and that they have some room to spread out and get their hands “dirty.” Skills focused on: group work, creative problem-solving, individual problem-solving, individual creativity, one-on-one with instructor, and general assimilation and application of material learned during academic time.

Variable Academic Time:
This is time when students will be given instruction that they can directly apply to the building of their worlds. For instance, they will hear about history, religion, and science. All students will meet during this time for academic instruction. The exact nature of these periods will vary from lecture to laboratory experiment. Skills focused on: retention of knowledge, experiential learning, active listening, and inquiry.

Low Impact Athletics:
This is time when students will be given the opportunity to learn a variety of low-impact activities designed to promote and encourage healthy and active living. Possibilities include Pilates, yoga, and Tai Chi.

Flexible Programming:
This is time that may include anything from experiential learning activities to guest speakers.

Entertainment Activities:
This is time that features a range of activities including movie marathons, games,etc.

Special Programming:
This is time that focuses on extended activities.

4/15/08 -- Shared Worlds signs one of the world’s best fantasists, Jeff VanderMeer as instructor.

VanderMeer is a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award and has also been a finalist for the Hugo Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, the International Horror Guild Award, the British Fantasy Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award. 

His most recent books have made the “year’s best” lists of Publishers Weekly, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Weekly, Publishers’ News, and Amazon.com.

04/01/08 -- Steven Zides will lead a world design group and will also teach the following classes: Pull Yourself Together: Newtonian Gravitation and Planetology; Dancing with the Stars: Stellar Evolution and the Conservation of Energy; Getting There is Half the Battle: Interplanetary and Interstellar Travel; and, All Creatures, Great and Small: General Relativity and Quantum Theory.
